⚡ Calculator Accuracy & Usage
The calculator uses officially published state tariff slabs, fixed charges, electricity duty, and Fuel Adjustment Charges (FAC). It is highly accurate for standard domestic consumers following their state's approved tariff schedule.
Actual bills may still vary slightly due to meter reading cycles, rounding rules, government subsidies applied to specific consumer categories, and any utility-specific fees not captured in the standard tariff schedule. Always treat the calculator output as a planning estimate — your official DISCOM-issued bill is the final authority.
Differences between the estimate and your actual bill can result from several factors:
Meter reading: Actual consumption in the billing cycle may differ from the number you entered. Subsidies: State governments may apply targeted subsidies (e.g., free first 100 units) that vary by consumer category. Additional charges: Your bill may include Regulatory Asset charges, Cross-Subsidy Surcharge (CSS), wheeling charges, or late-payment surcharges. Tariff revisions: Any regulatory changes after our last data update may not yet be reflected. Check the footer for the latest update date.
Select the category that matches your electricity meter connection type. Most home users should choose Domestic / Residential (LT). Small shops and offices typically fall under Commercial (LT). Farms and irrigation pumps use Agricultural. Industrial users have separate HT/LT categories.
If you are unsure of your category, check your electricity bill — it is usually printed on the first page as "Tariff Category" or "Consumer Type". You can also call your DISCOM helpline for clarification.

🔢 Understanding Your Electricity Bill
Telescopic (or slab-based) billing means different per-unit rates apply to different portions of your monthly electricity consumption — not your entire usage at a single flat rate. Each progressive block (slab) is charged at a higher rate as consumption increases.
For example, in a typical state: the first 100 units may be billed at ₹2/unit, units 101–200 at ₹4/unit, and units above 200 at ₹6/unit. If you consume 250 units, you pay: (100 × ₹2) + (100 × ₹4) + (50 × ₹6) = ₹200 + ₹400 + ₹300 = ₹900 in energy charges (before fixed charges and taxes). Our calculator handles this slab calculation automatically for all supported Indian states.
FAC stands for Fuel Adjustment Charge (also called Fuel and Power Purchase Cost Adjustment — FPPCA — in some states). It is a variable surcharge added to your electricity bill to account for fluctuations in the cost of fuel (coal, gas, etc.) used to generate electricity.
The FAC is revised periodically — often monthly or quarterly — by each state's Electricity Regulatory Commission based on actual generation fuel costs. When fuel prices rise, FAC increases; when they fall, FAC may decrease or become negative (a credit). Our calculator includes FAC estimates based on the latest published rate for each state.
Yes. In addition to energy charges (unit-rate × consumption per slab), our calculator includes:
Fixed Charges: A monthly flat fee based on your connected load or sanctioned load (kW), regardless of how many units you consume. Electricity Duty (ED): A state tax levied as a percentage of energy charges. FAC/PPAC: Fuel Adjustment Charge where applicable to your state and consumer category.
Some state-specific charges such as meter rent, wheeling charges, cross-subsidy surcharges, or Regulatory Asset charges may not always be included in the estimate. These are typically small amounts but can vary by state and consumer category.
